About DOXA

DOXA is a creative consultancy, named for the ancient Greek word for glory: what we see when order, truth and beauty come together.

We put that to work in three services: strategy to create order, narrative to uncover truth, and photography to capture beauty. We partner with leading organizations, from media, technology and science to humanitarian, faith and the arts, to bring purpose-led ideas to life.

Order. Truth. Beauty.

About the Founder

For Russ Ackerman, DOXA is the work he has been preparing to do his entire life. He founded it as the capstone of that journey: a creative consultancy that brings order, truth and beauty to a chaotic world through strategy, narrative and photography.

His work comes from a rare intersection: the Fortune 500 rigor of a builder and the heart of a creator.

As a builder, Russ brought order to uncharted markets throughout his career. He forged market-leading International, Sustainability and Geopolitical practices for KPMG; built Bertelsmann's first global e-commerce markets; opened Africa's internet content markets for Prodigy; pioneered new consumer categories for P&G and Mars in post-Communist Eastern Europe; and created narrative and visual content for leading media and agencies such as The Economist and Grey.

As a creator, he was shaped by complex life experiences. On a round-the-world journey at 30, he discovered photography's ability to capture glimpses of the human condition. With his late wife, Sue, a designer, he co-created beauty and sought truth while navigating her 20-year medical trauma, and later deepened his perspective as a Gotham Theology Fellow. That journey yielded an archive of thousands of images and reflections, a deep well he now draws from for his books and photography.

Today he brings these experiences together at DOXA. He is writing Paradox, a photoessay book on beauty amid pain; May Fifth, a memoir; and Glimpses, stories from travel, work and life that begin with meeting Mother Teresa. He also photographs Alliance for Smiles medical missions and advises Partners Worldwide on initiatives that address poverty.

He lives in Connecticut in the home he co-designed with Sue, and savors time with his grown children, Adriana and Alexander, and his dog, Moose.
