Founder
For Russ Ackerman, DOXA is the work he has been preparing to do his entire life. A lifelong builder and creator, he founded DOXA as the capstone of his journey: a Strategy + Narrative + Photography consultancy to help bring order, truth, and beauty to a chaotic world.
His work is born from a rare intersection: the Fortune 500 rigor of a builder and the heart of a creator.
As a builder, Russ brought order to uncharted ventures and brands his entire career. He has forged market-leading International, Sustainability and Geopolitical practices for KPMG; built Bertelsmann’s first global e-commerce markets; opened Africa’s internet content markets for Prodigy; pioneered new consumer categories for P&G and Mars in post-Communist Eastern Europe; and created high impact narrative and visual content for top-tier media and agencies such as The Economist and Grey.
As an creator, he sought truth and beauty through complex life experiences. On a round-the-world journey at 30, he discovered photography’s ability to capture glimpses of the human condition. With his late wife, Sue, a designer, he co-created beauty and sought truth while navigating her 20-year medical trauma, later deepening perspectives as a Gotham Theology Fellow. This journey yielded an archive of thousands of images and reflections – a deep well he now draws from for his narratives and photography.
Today, he fuses these experiences at DOXA, advising Partners Worldwide on ventures addressing poverty, producing Paradox, a photo-essay book on beauty amid pain across 60+ countries, writing May Fifth memoir of a deferred quest for normalcy, and photographing Alliance for Smiles medical missions.
He lives in Connecticut in the home he co-designed with Sue, and savors time with his grown children, Adriana and Alexander, and dog, Moose.
